Good morning!

The reason why I haven’t posted in a few days is because…well…I’ve been lazy.  And the laziness has creeped into almost every area of my life right now.  Specifically food.  I haven’t had any motivation to go grocery shopping, eat a decent breakfast, pack my own lunch, cook dinner, or even make reasonably healthy choices when I go out to eat.

For example: My biggest struggle with food is over eating during a meal.  If something tastes good I will eat until I’m nauseated.  This usually happens because I eat so fast that I don’t give my body enough time to release leptin.  Leptin is the hormone that signals fullness.  And so for the last year or so I’ve made a conscious effort to slow down.  That means when I think I’m done chewing I keep going, wait between bites, and limit my portions (I have that “eyes bigger than my stomach” problem).

Veggie Pizza

Veggie Pizza

I was pushed to start fresh last night.  We had pizza at a friend’s house for dinner.  I love pizza.  Maybe a little too much because I had two warm, gooey, giant slices of veggie pizza.  When it was all said and done I was so full that I couldn’t even drink water!  But I was thirsty and so I finished off a 16oz bottle and spent the rest of the night with reflux.  Uuuugh.  It was miserable.

It seems to me that there are two ways to deal with this.  I can A) blame my short-comings on “that time of the month” and beat myself up about making poor choices or B) I can accept this momentary lapse of less than savory food choices and use it as motivation to get going again.

I think I’ll go with choice (B).

To start my “recovery” I decided to start planning my meals.  I am going to pull out all of my favorite cook books and food magazines and begin working on a meal chart with recipes for lunch and dinner.

There are a couple of reasons why I want to get into the habit of making my own lunches.  For one thing its much for economical than buying food every day.  Secondly, making your own food is more time consuming but it means fresher ingredients, less processing and more control over the nutritional quality of the food.  Finally, I enjoy preparing food!  So, this should be a snap.  Right?

I’ll post my meal chart as soon as its ready :)
